Oct 7 - 13

After spending about 3 hours at the Halloween store to get my son a mask for his costume, I remembered a situation I got myself into a while back wearing a mask.

It was about 1983, and I decided to wear a Ronald Regan mask at the restaurant for Halloween. So, this limo driver had finished his meal and went outside, so we cleared his table. Well, he comes back and wants to know where his food and drink were. I explained that he had gone outside so we assumed he was finished. He explained in a harsh voice that he wasn’t finished and demanded I pay for his breakfast. I explained that he had finished and he had gone outside, therefore by Restaurant Law he had to now pay. Well this discussion went on for a while and did not end up well. After about 5 minutes when he finally left, I realized I had never taken my mask off and had this entire argument with Ronald’s mask on. Can you imagine having a conversation of any kind with someone in a president’s mask, let alone an argumentative one? As you can imagine I never wore a mask of a president again.

Sept 30 - Oct 6

People always talk about the sentimental reason parents cry because of their kids. But, if you want to bring a tear to a parent’s eye, have their child tell them they are going out for a school sport. Why would we cry, because we know that first of all practice is 25 minutes away 4 nights a week. Then there is the game on the weekends. You know the one day you get to relax. Then there is all the pressure of them making the team, and the guilt you feel, if you are happy they don’t. You know the scandal about the parents paying bribes to get their kids into college, well, is it against the law to bribe the coach to not let them on the team?

My wife works with a non-profit that brings respite support to adoptive families. The non-profit is called CAFA, which stands for Capital Adoptive Families Alliance. On Oct 12 we will hold an Octoberfest at FlapJacks in the evening. Warning I might be cooking. Anyway, click the image below for the flyer and please come.

Sept 23 - 29

When you raise children it is important to teach them how to puts things away. So, I open the refrigerator door to see a box of canned sodas on the shelf. I go to grab one only to find they are positioned on their side instead of upright. Which means they start rolling out individually in succession. The first one rolls out and I catch it and feel pretty good about myself. The second one rolls out and I catch it and think I am really on top of things. The third one rolls out and both my hands are full and I manage to snare it on top of the other two. Now the fourth one rolls out and I panic, and I throw these three into the air to catch the fourth. However, when the fifth comes I miss it and when it hits the ground it pops open and shoots me with carbonated lime soda. Now I am completely befuddled and proceed to let the rest come rolling out and just hit the ground. I wasn’t even aware that I had started screaming until my wife comes out to see what I am doing. I didn’t even try to explain.
