Ok, so this is I hope an interesting music story. I have always loved music and have since I was a teenager. So recently I got this song stuck in my head that I couldn’t remember when and where it came from. I also couldn’t remember the lyrics, so I would whistle it all the time. It seems like it came from the 1940’s but I just couldn’t remember. I have this vision of some woman singing it in a Humphrey Bogart movie. Anyway it was driving me nuts and so I even whistled it to a few customers who remembered it but like me couldn’t remember the name or author. So, I started playing all the songs from the 40’s on Apple Music to no avail. Today I tried the thirties and one artist sounded familiar, Billie Holiday. So I told Siri to play her songs. The fifth song was it, but it didn’t sound at all like what I expected. The song was “Summertime”. I did a little research and realized that this song had been covered at least 47 times. Most recently by Lana Del Rey, and just before that by Sublime. Most of us remember it from a cover in the seventies. It was composed by George Gershwin in 1935 for the opera “Porgy and Bess”. I realize now that I was thinking of the version by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. A little evolution of the song now makes sense. Well that’s all folks.
