Mar 29 - Apr 4

Ok, so we are down in Santa Cruz for the weekend to celebrate my eldest’s birthday. My wife being the nice person she is offered to babysit our 2 and half year old grandson while they go out to dinner. Lately I have been complaining about the work involved in trying to run three restaurants, well that is nothing compared to trying to keep a 2 year old preoccupied. I guess I am too old to remember our darling children having this much energy. I totally understand why parents get their kids electronic devices by the age of 3.

So folks, as you may have been aware at the Sunrise Country Waffles, Shelly has been out on sick leave. It turns out that she has cancer and after having surgery they found she had uterine and ovarian cancer. Fortunately, they caught them both early. She is going through chemo now and if everything goes as planned she will be back in August. I know at times during chemo she has had tough luck and things have been difficult. I feel so bad for her because she always stayed healthy and ate healthy. Please keep her in your prayers and hopefully the doctors get everything under control.

Have you ever walked into a room and knew something was amiss?

Lately, I have been making stir fry at home for the wife and kids. I will go to Food Max and buy all the vegetables and chicken to fry up. My favorite ingredient to add flavor is pineapple chunks. So I bought 4 cans to make sure I wouldn’t run out.

Later on I walk into the pantry when my foot sticks to the floor, and I mean really sticks to the floor. I look over and there is one pull off lid hiding in the corner. Then I find 2 empty cans in the other corner under some flour. I never did find the other 2 cans. Obviously, both my kids denied ever doing such a thing.

So this is where I want to start a new business. It will be called “Rent a Nun to Find the Truth”. This woman in a black nun’s habit comes to your house with a yard stick. You sit the kid, or adult, at a short table and the nun starts asking questions. If she doesn’t hear what she wants she slams the yard stick down on the table. Each time getting closer and closer until the child or adult finally breaks down and tells the truth.

It's too bad I have a social worker wife, I think this idea could be a great start-up.

I am a lucky guy.

Recently, I purchased a fancy 14ft Stihl Pole saw. Well I went to cut this large oak branch that was growing over a fruit tree, when the branch swung down and broke the top off my new saw. Well, I looked around and didn’t find anyone who could fix it, so I was a little upset that my new toy was not only broken but dripping oil everywhere.

Today a customer inadvertently drove through the ladies bathroom at Sunrise (we will be closed Saturday hoping to open Sunday, by using the all gender bathroom for the ladies). Anyway this customer's grandson fixes Stihl equipment and offered to fix mine for just the cost of the parts.

I mean, am I lucky or what?

I wrote this last night and sent it to the Country Waffles customers last night. We hope to now open Sunday morning. Today, I didn’t feel that lucky. When the car went through the bathroom wall it broke the main water line and so it flooded the whole dining area. When I got there yesterday, the Fire Dept, Sheriff’s Dept, an ambulance, along with the City building inspector were there. Fortunately, both occupants of the car were shaken up but unhurt. Today there was just a lot of cleanup.

Folks, I am afraid to even say anything because it might jinx me, so I won’t.
