Jun 8 - 14

I think that if you were to track the history and families of our best actors,  you will see they all have siblings. Why do you wonder? It is not the question as to why they had siblings, it is the answer as to why they became actors. When you have siblings you learn early that you can blame them for your misdeeds, and so you learn to act, and if you act well you can blame them for everything.  Unfortunately, I was a very poor actor, and that was such a shame because I had 5 siblings and I could have become a star.  Anyway, kids nowadays seemed to have mastered the profession. If they want to blame something on a sister, they can turn their face blue. They can shed tears in an instant and all for the purpose of lying to their parents. We poor parents don’t seem to have a chance anymore. When my son explains to me how his sister managed to get the cookies off the top shelf (he is 6ft 6), using a ladder from the garage, even though he warned her not to, with tears flowing down his face pleading for me to believe him, I just want to give him a bronze statue.

Ok, everyone. The cases in Sacramento have not gone down as we all hoped, so I would like to keep close to 12 feet between parties inside. It is difficult to tell people we can’t seat them, but it is the ethical thing to try and do.  However, if you sit outside, six feet is a safe number.

Jun 1 - 7

Why do my kids talk to their significant others on speakerphone? I mean, do they really want us to hear everything they say to one another. Apparently, they think it is more romantic that way. However, there are some conversations my wife and I just do not want to hear. I will not elaborate.

So far the opening has gone ok. I have kept the seating to just 1 out of every 3 ½ tables. If the cases in Sacramento County don’t go up in the next week I will cautiously seat a little more. I would much rather be safe than sorry, but I seem to offend someone no matter what I do. Also, I appreciate all of you that come in with a mask, it puts the servers at a little more ease. I for one keep finding myself trying to drink my coffee through one.

Hey if you are looking for a nice little walk, I have found a secret place. I don’t know why I think it is a secret, but I have lived in the Loomis area for over 10 years and just found out about it. It is a 90-acre bird sanctuary about 2 miles east of Taylors in Penryn. It is called Traylor (yes, with an r) Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary. Take a picture of the map, so you don’t get lost like I did, and don’t tell anybody I told you about it.

May 25 - 31

Today we opened at both FlapJacks and Country Waffles with dine in or dine out service. We have added several tables outside and are only seating every third to fourth table inside. We would appreciate it if you wore a mask inside but do not require it. I was thinking of hiring a seamstress to make little masks for the fish in the fish tank. I think this would set a good example for everyone.  Also we would appreciate it if everyone used a credit card so there is less overall interaction between people. I wastrying to think of a way to display a flashing credit card in the fish tank but with my luck I would electrocute those cute little fish and then you would get the wrong impression of the little masks.

Right now it is more important to be safe then profitable, and we will continue this way slowly and see what happens. Again, I would recommend sitting outside and dress for the hot weather. You could even bring your own fish or dog. Neither one of which would be required to wear a mask.

May 18 - 24

It is important that we keep our humor at a time like this, however, I don’t seem to have anything funny to write. I do, but I am not allowed to express my knowledge of certain things...OK, we had a great turnout Friday night at FlapJacks and it looks like we will send a check to Donate4Sacramento for almost $2500! Not bad. You all did great and I appreciate it so much. You know we are all having a tough time and at times we as individuals seem to think that we are taking the brunt of this, however, I heard a story on the radio today, that made me realize we are all pretty lucky. We will get through this, we might all be a little heavier, and we will all have a lot less money, and, oh I better not say anymore.

So, folks, I did get some money from the government and as of right now we are OK, however, it is only for 8 weeks, but hopefully, we will survive the Summer. It also looks like we are getting closer to opening. We are adding about nine tables outside at FlapJacks and we will use the front patio at Sunrise. We will allow seating inside but I do not feel comfortable about it. Likely we will try to keep customers inside 12 feet apart. Outside, 6 feet is considered a safe social distance, and so I think we might all have to get used to the heat in the summer and try and sit outside as long as we can.

If only I had a joke. Those were the days my friend we thought they would never end. Oh sorry, I was getting carried away.
