May 25 - 31

Today we opened at both FlapJacks and Country Waffles with dine in or dine out service. We have added several tables outside and are only seating every third to fourth table inside. We would appreciate it if you wore a mask inside but do not require it. I was thinking of hiring a seamstress to make little masks for the fish in the fish tank. I think this would set a good example for everyone.  Also we would appreciate it if everyone used a credit card so there is less overall interaction between people. I wastrying to think of a way to display a flashing credit card in the fish tank but with my luck I would electrocute those cute little fish and then you would get the wrong impression of the little masks.

Right now it is more important to be safe then profitable, and we will continue this way slowly and see what happens. Again, I would recommend sitting outside and dress for the hot weather. You could even bring your own fish or dog. Neither one of which would be required to wear a mask.

May 18 - 24

It is important that we keep our humor at a time like this, however, I don’t seem to have anything funny to write. I do, but I am not allowed to express my knowledge of certain things...OK, we had a great turnout Friday night at FlapJacks and it looks like we will send a check to Donate4Sacramento for almost $2500! Not bad. You all did great and I appreciate it so much. You know we are all having a tough time and at times we as individuals seem to think that we are taking the brunt of this, however, I heard a story on the radio today, that made me realize we are all pretty lucky. We will get through this, we might all be a little heavier, and we will all have a lot less money, and, oh I better not say anymore.

So, folks, I did get some money from the government and as of right now we are OK, however, it is only for 8 weeks, but hopefully, we will survive the Summer. It also looks like we are getting closer to opening. We are adding about nine tables outside at FlapJacks and we will use the front patio at Sunrise. We will allow seating inside but I do not feel comfortable about it. Likely we will try to keep customers inside 12 feet apart. Outside, 6 feet is considered a safe social distance, and so I think we might all have to get used to the heat in the summer and try and sit outside as long as we can.

If only I had a joke. Those were the days my friend we thought they would never end. Oh sorry, I was getting carried away.

May 11 - 17

Ok, folks, you know how this social distancing thing can be difficult at times. Well, I have come up with a solution. You know how you forget to stay six feet away from someone, or worse yet, someone gets too close to you? The solution is we all stop bathing. After just a few days, believe me, no one will get within 6 yards of you, and you now will be able to sleep at night knowing you are safe. You can thank me later.

So don’t forget Mother's Day. Go to our website and order a wonderful breakfast for the Mrs. to take home. Remember, we are not taking cash so it is a lot easier if you preorder and prepay. Moms, if someone could only get you away from your children for the day? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

May 4 - 10

Did you read that we in Sacramento County had the lowest coronavirus infection rate of any large metro area?  Whoo Hooo! Three months ago we had barely heard of this virus and now this news subject is 99% of everything. It is no time to go out partying yet. Maybe, Tuesday? Seriously, our social distancing has worked so far, and I for one don’t want to open too soon. However, I can’t wait to open, but things will be different for a while. We probably will only seat every third table, you will enter with a mask (hopefully you won’t try to rob us), and we may take your temperature at the door. We may only take reservations and then get your email when you call so that if there was another customer or employee, who was stricken, we could notify you. We will expand to tables outside where the virus doesn’t tend to travel effectively as far. It will be an experience, and years from now, we will have something to talk about.

People, I don’t know if I can take months more of my children.  When my son isn’t playing his guitars or his drums or his games, he talks. I want to look into the record for the Guinness Book of Records of the most words spoken in a month. Then again, the last thing I want to do is encourage him. Maybe I should tell him of the record of the least amount of words spoken in a month. Yes, that’s it. I will tell him if he could break that record, I will send him to London to claim the prize. I could find a really slow boat. Oh, there is hope, even in this time of crisis.
