Wow!
First off, we are going to try opening Flapjacks Friday and Saturday nights from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for just Burgers, Shakes, and Fries. Again this will be for take-out only. So it will be like the old days with “car hops”. We will try this. I would strongly suggest you download the ChowNow app so we can get the payment prepaid. The menu will be like the one we have at Taylors with a limited menu. However, we will still have lasagna and a meatloaf dinner that you can purchase to reheat.
Second. This is me venting. The government has told us that if we stay open they will give us money to operate for 10 weeks. The problem is when you apply you are in competition with 30 million other businesses. Ok, say the government gives the Bank of So & So $10,000,000 dollars to dole out, and the bank has 1000 businesses apply. If you’re the bank, you think, hey, it is too much work to go through all of these. Let’s just lend it to our biggest customers. Consequently, most of us don’t get any money. I don’t know if this is how it works, but I don’t know of any small business like mine that has received any response let alone any money. But, a friend of mine who has a large business has already received the money. Very large restaurant chains have gotten $30,000,000 so far. For me, my landlords are still charging rent, so in my present state, I am losing about $12,000 a month for each restaurant. So, if one of you knows somebody, let them know we SMALL businesses are having a very tough time, which means that eventually my employees, will have a tough time.
Third. So I still don’t understand the term “Noise Cancelling Headphones”. My son goes around singing and playing the guitar and playing the drums and we have to throw things at him to get his attention. Is the purpose of these so you don’t hear your parents. Because, if that is the case, they nailed it.

Ok, so this constant singing and guitar playing and drum playing and the conversations about those 3 subjects, is catching up to me. I wish I could drink more but it does not seem to help. So, enough about me. I think that everyone should start off their morning or any time they feel gloom, with asking Siri, or Alexa or your child or grandchild to play the song, “Safe and Sound” by Capital Cities. It has an uplifting beat and some good lyrics (except for one line), which fits right now. On the other hand, if you see someone not social distancing, then I have another song you should play to them. It is called “Shame” by Elle King. Play it loud like you mean it.
Well, things are progressing. Again I encourage you to download the ChowNow app, for any restaurant, because it makes it so easy. It is working well at Taylors, and we just got it working at Flapjacks. Hopefully, by the end of next week, we will have it at Country Waffles.
I am in a quandary. The government supposedly will give us money to pay our employees to stay open for business, however, they are offering the employees more to stay home. There appears to be some promising drugs on the horizon, but they are months away from being prescribed and I am terrified of being closed that long, so I am trying the take-out only route. This is all so fun. Remember, we learn from adversity.

It will take about a week to activate ChowNow there. Sunday at both places we will prepare a Ham dinner for Easter. This will be a Baked Ham with a Pineapple glaze. Wow! Is this exciting or what? Just think of the stories we call tell one day. Our grandparents could say, "we went through World War II", "Yea, but we went through COVID-19". We will all get through this, we might have a lot less money and hair, but we will. This week we opened FlapJacks for take-out only but it was a struggle. We are not really set up to take all our orders over the phone at one time. This week we will get the ChowNow app working and that should help a lot. I encourage you to download it on your smartphone. It allows you to order from different restaurants and prepay. It will also give you a time when the order is ready. We will shoot to open Country Waffles this Thursday, but we won’t have the app ready so we will have a little bit of a struggle at first as well.
This week I have applied for at least 5 different forms of the same loan, all while trying to learn all these systems of online ordering that frankly we never had to worry about before, and all the while I have had to listen to my son play his guitar or drums or just converse with me for hours and hours.
Once again, we will get through this. I got through 30 months of rebuilding after the fire, so what is a measly 18 months of spending time with my children. Oh, that ‘s right, we better find a vaccine pretty soon.
Thanks folks.
